Steel Door Installation Guidelines

Just like any other door installation, steel doors are no different either. Only that, you need to handle them with much care to avoid scratching them hence losing their quality. The following are step-by-step steel door installation guidelines.

Frame Installation

All frames should be fastened to adjacent structures so as to retain their position and stability. Where grouting is necessary like in masonry installation, frames should be fastened in a way that does not put pressure that may damage the frame. When steel doors come wrapped in the plastic paper it is advisable not to remove the paper until after the installation is done.

Doors Installation

Doors are installed and fastened on frames. They should be aligned with frames to ensure maximum operational effectiveness and appearance. The clearance between the door and the frame should be a maximum of 3.2mm for a single swing door or a pair of doors. The clearance between the door and the doorstop should be between 1.6mm to 2.4mm.

Hardware installation; hinges, locks, and handles.

For a screw to effectively secure the hardware, it must have three threads within the door. The top hinge should be 299mm from the rabbet section of the frame to the centerline, the bottom one should be 330mm from the bottom of the frame and the intermediate should be equally spaced from the top and bottom hinges.

After installation, doors should be adjusted for proper operation, free from binding or other defects.

All soiled surfaces should be cleaned and restored, all debris and scraps removed.
